What is a Fringe Festival?

A Fringe Festival is an open-access celebration of the arts where creativity takes center stage. Born from the idea that art should be accessible, experimental, and community-driven, Fringe festivals around the world invite performers, visual artists, musicians, comedians, storytellers, and dreamers of every kind to share their work with the public.

There’s no artistic mold to fit into. Just bold ideas, original voices, and unforgettable experiences.

From street performances and immersive theatre to live music, comedy, dance, poetry, film, and visual art - Fringe is where audiences discover something unexpected around every corner.

At its heart, Fringe is about connection: artists connecting with audiences, communities connecting through creativity, and cities transforming into living stages for one unforgettable weekend.

EST. 2023

This September, Downtown Prattville becomes Alabama’s Fringe stage. AIFF is bringing the energy and spirit of traditional Fringe festivals to the heart of our historic downtown, transforming local businesses, gathering spaces, sidewalks, and venues into vibrant hubs of art and performance.

For one colorful weekend, audiences will wander from venue to venue discovering:

  • Live Theatre

  • Comedy

  • Music

  • Dance

  • Spoken Word

  • Visual Arts

AIFF is designed to be walkable, immersive, and community-centered, encouraging visitors to explore downtown Prattville while experiencing creativity in unexpected places.

Whether you’re an artist, lifelong arts lover, curious first-time attendee, or someone simply looking for a memorable weekend, Fringe invites you to step into something welcoming and wildly original.

The Alabama International Fringe Festival is a celebration created by people who are deeply involved in and passionate about the local arts community.

Our team includes artists, performers, organizers, musicians, and creatives who believe the arts have the power to connect people, strengthen communities, and inspire meaningful cultural growth throughout the River Region.

AIFF was built from a shared vision: to expand opportunities for the arts locally while creating a vibrant, welcoming platform for both emerging and established artists to share their original work.

AIFF also embraces the global spirit of Fringe through our partnership with Latest TV in Britain, helping create opportunities for cultural exchange and international visibility to select artists and performances.

In addition to our live downtown experience, AIFF includes a Digital Fringe component designed to make Fringe more accessible than ever - allowing audiences and artists to participate from anywhere and expanding the reach of creative voices beyond geographic boundaries.

Our festival is designed to:

  • Support local and traveling artists

  • Encourage original and experimental work

  • Introduce new audiences to the arts

  • Strengthen the visibility of the arts in the River Region

  • Foster collaboration, creativity, and cultural exchange

  • Make Fringe accessible both in-person and online

At its heart, AIFF is about helping creativity thrive - not just for one weekend, but as part of a growing and lasting arts culture in our region.
